Dr. James Smithson II, DDS MS

Dr. James Smithson grew up in Suwanee, Georgia. He completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of Georgia, graduating Cum Laude. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in Columbus, Ohio, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).

After working for three years as a general dentist in Ohio, Dr. Smithson discovered his passion for endodontics through challenging cases that allowed him to help patients in pain while saving their natural teeth. He returned to OSU and accepted a position in the Advanced Endodontics Residency Program, where he conducted clinical research on injection techniques to enhance anesthetic efficacy. He graduated with a Master of Science and a Specialty Certificate in Endodontics.

A Commitment to Quality Care

Dr. Smithson believes in spending adequate time with each patient, prioritizing quality over quantity. He and Dr. Norrington limit their schedule to a select number of cases per day—significantly fewer than many in-network competitors—ensuring they never feel rushed and can provide the focused attention each patient deserves.

At West Atlanta Endodontics, Dr. Smithson utilizes advanced technology, including cone beam CT for three-dimensional imaging, surgical microscopes for precision, ultrasonic irrigation for thorough cleaning, and Ion Plus biocompatible sealer. These tools, combined with his unhurried approach, allow him to deliver exceptional endodontic care.

Dr. Smithson takes pride in providing a painless experience for his patients, taking time to sit with them, explain procedures, and build genuine connections. He resides in the Kennesaw area with his wife, Morgan, and two sons. Outside of endodontics, Dr. Smithson enjoys grilling, hiking, and cheering for the Dawgs.
